About the collaborative programme

The Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) at The University of Manchester, UK, is proud to offer an affordable professional online programme in Global Health, in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), our course has been developed for people working in the humanitarian sector or those wishing to enter this field.

75% of our students studying the online programmes in Global Health are from outside the UK, and we honour our partnership with the IFRC by ensuring course fees are the same for UK and international students.

About the course

The taught course modules (years 1 and 2, PG Cert and Dip) cover issues related to:

  • The worldwide improvement of health;
  • The reduction of disparities;
  • Protection against global threats that disregard national borders.

The course modules are unique in bringing together the study of emergency medicine, disaster management, community health, anthropology and sociology of health and illness in an online format. As such they offer both a practical means of study and an inclusive approach which mirrors the reality of health interventions within a humanitarian context.

All students will be allocated a dissertation supervisor who will support them throughout the year. Formal dissertation supervision sessions will be arranged which may be conducted via videoconference, telephone, or by email depending upon the personal preference and the facilities available to each student.

All assessment will take place online.

Progression options

The MSc is comprised of three years (180 credits), with each component (year) worth 60 credits.

The PG Certificate is the first stage of the 3-year MSc in Global Health, comprising PG Cert (year 1), PG Dip (year 2), MSc Dissertation (year 3).

Scholarships and bursaries

We currently offer four scholarships/bursaries, available for 2016/17, to fund the first year (PG Cert) tuition fee.

The deadline for application is 30 June 2016.
